Style Spots for 2018

Step into Spring

2017 was an experimental year for hair to say the least, from the super straight styles, ponytails, and huge hair accessories to the neon colours, rainbow dyes and glow in the dark hair colours which dominated the internet making both stylists and clients alike rejoice at the plethora of possibilities that could be achieved.
So… What will the top trends of this year be and will there be something for everyone? As fashion moves extraordinarily quickly, it is likely that you will find something perfect to suit you or if you are feeling brave, something that can contribute to a new you. Lets take a look.

Boyish wonders:-
It is predicted that boyish androgyny will have a major moment in 2018. Normally we tend to find that fashion will often repeat itself and there is no exception this year where we revert back to the 1980’s. Initially when we think of this period, we think of those horrific curly perms, the paige boys and the untimely bowl cut that we still may hide away from humanity when looking through the school scrapbook. “So which of these insanity driven styles could it be and why on earth would it be bought back?”, I hear you ask, but here is the new trend of ‘the bowl cut’.
Soft, layered and hugely textured, it has already made a resurgence in fashion and is even more prominent in the hair industry especially since the New Year. Still very feminine for the ladies but strong for the men, imagine putting a fresh twist on the old 80’s bowl and you come up with something quite spectacular!!!

Keep it natural
Fashion predicts that the all-natural afro is, “a strong contender” to be the best hairstyle for 2018 – “as long as it isn’t too defined.” Once again, 80’s is looming over us with force only since then we have advanced in the world of haircare and curls now look less ridged and more soft and tousled. Its official, curls are coming back and they look better than ever!

Straight down the line
Don’t fancy embracing curls? Then here is another of 2018’s key hairstyling secrets – the straighter the style the better! In terms of hair styles that will be hot in 2018, long straight hair is set to take the industry by storm again. A mid to long length blunt cut with gloss and shine. The LOB will continue to be a popular choice but it has to be a blunt cut on the edge then textured through the layers to give it some movement so it can be manipulated and easily styled.

Pull it back
One of the top tips for keeping ahead of the 2018 hair trends is to put down your hairdryer and pull your air-dried hair back into a ponytail. Not only is this one of the easiest 2018 hair trends to try at home, but it will also help keep your hair healthy and avoid heat damage.
Ponytails will remain prominent as we transition from AW17 to SS18 seasons, try undone air dried hair pulled back away from the face with accessories for added glamour such hair bows, embellished clips or loose bands.
At 36, Sienna Miller proved that wearing your hair up in a ponytail, tied with a simple bow, didn’t have to look too ‘school girl’ and could look chic and sophisticated…

Hair colour trends for 2018

Sweet treats
Satin smooth chocolate, or gloriously golden honey – think sweet and warm shades with a healthy shine when it comes to colour for the top 2018 hair trends.
These rich, nourished colours will be a hit for the year ahead, I’d say chocolate brown and honey shades will be popular as long as the hair looks healthy with maximum shine.
So, think Eva Longoria on the red carpet in Cannes, but with even more depth of colour and chocolatey brown richness…

Blonde ambition
Thinking of changing up your hair colour next year? It seems there’s never been a better time to be blonde. There are so many shades coming through already as top 2018 hair trends.
Metallic blondes and pastel yellow colour trends are making a breakthrough in 2018. We’re already seeing pops of colour a la Rita Ora debuting her recent coloured soaked fringe which frames the face and is a bit of fun. Holly Willoughby had the right idea this summer, taking her golden blonde locks a shade lighter to freshen up her look.

Brand new balayage
Balayage has been a huge trend over the last few years, and it isn’t going anywhere any time soon. However, the much-loved colouring style is evolving in 2018. The evolution of balayage moves towards ‘Californian Balayage’ so a much lighter and cooler overall look.

But it’s not just blondes and lighter hair tones who will be having all the fun next year. Charcoal balayage and charcoal grey is also great on mid-length hair and will be bang on trend as we move into 2018.

All hail the red head
Don’t worry redheads, when it comes to 2018 hair trends in hair colour, there are some really exciting new shades coming your way next year. Jack Howard’s personal favourites? Fiery ginger and copper shades.
